A fierce fire engulfed the popular 10-storey Mandilas Building situated on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Sunday, resulting in the destruction of items and properties valued at several million naira.

According to an eyewitness, the incident took place around 1:15 p.m. when traders were not yet open for business.

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that there were no reported casualties in the incident.

The fire reportedly originated from a warehouse on the first floor of the building before spreading to other floors.

Men of the state Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Police, and other emergency responders raced to the scene to put out the raging fire.

Affected traders who later stormed the scene were seen salvaging some of their wares and other valuable items possible.

At the time of the press, the cause of the inferno had not been determined, and rescue operations were still in progress.
