The Global News reports that Gunmen, believed to be bandits, have launched an assault on a government primary school in the Kuriga community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to reports, over 200 pupils have been abducted in the attack.

Kuriga community, situated along the Kaduna Birnin-Gwari Road, has long been plagued by the menace of banditry.

Although the police authorities has not officially confirmed the incident, according to a local source, the bandits raided the school around 8:30 am on Thursday, abducting numerous pupils, including the head teacher.

The source added that many students sustained injuries as they attempt to flee the school on sighting the bandits.

Meanwhile, an official of the state government confirmed the incident to pressmen and assured that a statement would soon be issued.

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani twitted on his social media account that “It’s tragic to hear that 232 students have just been kidnapped in Kuriga village,Chikun Lg in Kaduna State.Its the same village where a school principal,Idris Sufyan was killed and his wife kidnapped over a month ago.However,I’m optimistic their freedom will be secured.”
