OGANIRU NDIGBO GBURUGBURU, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural group has advocated for the recognition of the rights and importance of Ndigbo, both within Nigeria and globally.
In a world press conference held in Lagos, titled “NDIGBO ARE HUMAN, ALIVE AND DESERVED TO BE HEARD,” called for unity, peaceful coexistence, and socio-economic development in the Igbo region.
The event gathered prominent figures, leaders of communities, media representatives, and stakeholders, aiming to address the challenges faced by Ndigbo, particularly in Lagos, which hosts the largest concentration of Igbo people outside the South East.
The organization emphasized its allegiance to a united, peaceful, and progressive Nigeria, while demanding action to protect and promote the interests of the Igbo race.
The National Chairman of OGANIRU NDIGBO GBURUGBURU, Chika Dike and Martins Chiedozie Ugwu, the National Secretary expressed their commitment to collaborate with stakeholders to advance the socio-economic status of the Igbo race. They urged everyone to spread the message of unity, peaceful coexistence, and economic development for the benefit of all Ndigbo.
The group highlighted several pressing issues faced by the Igbo community, including disputes with host communities, the destruction of businesses and shelters without compensation, the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the need for infrastructure development, particularly road and airport networks, in Igbo land.
OGANIRU NDIGBO GBURUGBURU condemned the sit-at-home order that has adversely affected economic and social life in the Southeast and called for an end to the violence and destruction of properties in Igbo communities. The organization urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to initiate healing and reconciliation among different tribes, while releasing political prisoners, especially Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Moreover, the group urged the Igbo diaspora to invest in Ala-Igbo, explore available industrial parks and layouts, and contribute to the economic growth of the region. It stressed the importance of unity among Igbo leaders, emphasizing that together, they could change the face of Igbo land for the better.
OGANIRU NDIGBO GBURUGBURU unveiled plans for an upcoming Igbo Renaissance event in Enugu, presenting a blueprint and roadmap for the region’s development, calling on support from Igbo communities worldwide.
