In a decisive response to rising security concerns, Ikere Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Sqn Ldr Rtd) Olu Adamolekun Egbejoda, today spearheaded a successful operation to comb the bush in the Igbo Oka axis in Ikere, bordering Igbara-Odo Ekiti and Iju axis in Ondo State
The operation was executed as a joint patrol by the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps, the O’odua Peoples Congress (OPC), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), resulting in the arrest of five suspects. This action was part of a concerted effort to support Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s drive to purge Ekiti State of unscrupulous elements.
The suspects, apprehended in the dense foliage of the thick Ikere Igbo Oka axis, made dubious claims about their activities. Three of the individuals alleged that they were cow herders coming from Akure, but no cows were found in the vicinity, nor any evidence of their presence, such as droppings. The remaining two suspects claimed to be honey harvesters, yet no evidence of honey or related equipment was discovered.
Chairman Olu Adamolekun lauded the cooperative efforts of the security operatives involved in the operation. “This joint operation demonstrates our collective commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our people,” he said. “We will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of peace and orderliness.”
The Chairman further emphasized that this operation aligns with Governor Oyebanji’s vigorous efforts to eliminate criminal activities in Ekiti State. He called on all residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
The suspects have been transferred to the RRS office in Ado-Ekiti for further questioning, with assurance that due process will be followed in handling their case. Further updates will be made available to the public as they unfold.
